“Mahfel” Quranic program expands global reach with multilingual broadcast
TEHRAN- The popular Iranian Quranic television program “Mahfel” is now dubbed into four languages and aired on eight international networks, as the show continues to expand its reach beyond Iran and attract audiences across the Muslim world.
The program, which has become a fixture of Ramadan broadcasting in recent years, combines Quranic recitation, personal storytelling, and cultural performances to convey key messages rooted in the Holy Quran.
Speaking to Mehr News Agency, Mohammad-Hossein Alizadeh Kiapi, editor-in-chief of “Mahfel”, said that requests for dubbing the show into other languages and for the presence of its team in Islamic countries have increased. “At present, ‘Mahfel’ is dubbed into four languages and broadcast on eight global networks.”
He added that nine international trips have so far been carried out at the invitation of Muslim communities abroad.
“Members of the editorial board and directing team travel throughout the year to various cities and regions to discover gifted Quran reciters and inspiring figures,” he mentioned.
“We move from city to city to identify and uncover Quranic talents through field research,” he said, adding that the program also allows individuals to register and introduce potential subjects through its official website.
Quran teachers and active Quranic circles across the country play a significant role in introducing distinguished and promising figures, some of whom are ultimately selected to appear on the show, he added.
He stressed that the production team’s main sensitivity lies in conveying the central message of each episode. While the program includes diverse segments such as intimate conversations with hosts, choral performances, and supplementary items, all elements are designed to serve a unified purpose.
“The most important principle for us is to communicate the core message of each subject,” he noted, explaining that this message is usually centered on one of the Quran’s explicit commandments and is presented through the life stories and experiences of the guests.
Referring to public feedback, he said audience has always supported the program. The team systematically collects and analyzes viewers’ opinions through social media, in-person meetings, and polling centers, incorporating the findings into future planning.
One of the major demands from viewers was the production of a special program for children and teenagers. In response, the team produced “Mahfel Setareha” (Mahfel Stars), which aired during the lunar months of Rajab and Shaban and was warmly welcomed by families.
Looking ahead, he described “Mahfel” as having become part of the Quranic and Ramadan-oriented lifestyle of many people, expressing hope that new seasons will be produced if the current success continues. Plans are also underway to expand the “Mahfel School” initiative and gradually develop virtual Quranic training courses in line with audience needs.
The "Mahfel" program stands out for its diverse lineup of individuals from various fields, setting it apart from traditional Quran-centric shows. In addition to Quran memorizers and reciters, the program incorporates group singing, recitation, and declamation, adding a unique flair and energy that captivates viewers and keeps the program dynamic.
The carefully crafted rhythm and varied topics, coupled with the expertise of the host and editing team in shaping rhythmic structures, ensure a seamless transition from slow-paced moments to lively segments, preventing monotony and fatigue.
By featuring participants from different countries, "Mahfel" aims to provide a global perspective and showcase diverse cultural representations. The inclusion of individuals from various nations highlights the Quran's role as a unifying force, fostering solidarity and interconnectedness among Muslims worldwide.
